How to prepare to go south this winter

Whether we want to admit it or not, winter is coming! The leaves are starting to fall, temperatures are dropping, and Snowbirds everywhere are getting ready to head south. Maybe you’re one of them?

If you're going with an RV in tow, we have some helpful tips to ensure you start the journey on the right foot!

Prepare for travel

Be sure that your RV tires have proper tread and that they are not outdated. Did you know that RV tires have an expiry date? That means even if you haven’t put many miles on them yet, they might need replacing. It’s always best to check before you go!

Your RV may be impacted by cold weather along your journey south, so make sure you take the right steps to keep it in working order the entire trip. If you are running into any freezing temperatures, you may want to travel with your water lines winterized. Tip: You can still fill your freshwater holding tank to use along the way.

Take note of the height, width and length of your RV before you head out of town. This will help along the way so you can be mindful and ensure you’ll make it through certain clearances.

Still, looking for that perfect home away from home?

A four-season RV is a great option for those looking for a home to take with them on the road. These units are built to keep you warm and comfortable even if the temperature drops below freezing outside.

Just like the name suggests, a four-season trailer can be used in the spring, summer, fall and winter. Since they have better insulation, they keep you warmer in winter and cooler in the summer. They’re also built better so they are durable and great for the long trip down to Arizona or wherever else the road might take you!

If you’re concerned about living space and whether there will be enough room for both of you, consider buying a couple’s unit. These RVs are designed with long-term living in mind and have adequate room for each family member to have their own space. They are a big hit with the Snowbird community for a reason!
